ARTIST STATEMENT: my practice is process-driven, rooted in curiosity, instinct, and the willingness to let a painting change direction. i am drawn to the overlooked, to the emotion and meaning held inside things we move past every day. painting is less about arriving at a resolved image than being present enough to discover what emerges along the way. that uncertainty is where the painting becomes alive. my desire is for our humanity to be seen.

i often begin with a feeling, a photograph, a memory, or a spontaneous mark, without knowing what the finished work will become. vulnerability, contradiction, frustration, grief, strength, and joy all enter the studio with me and find their way into the work. each painting is layered through adding, covering, scraping, drawing, and returning. i am interested in what happens when imperfection becomes part of the final language of the piece.

to make art is to enter an ongoing conversation that began long before me and will continue after me. adding my voice to that conversation feels like both a privilege and a responsibility. my paintings become records of decisions, revisions, accidents, and discoveries. the layers hold evidence of the painting’s becoming and, in many ways, my own.
